A flying start to the 18th FAI World Microlight Championships

The 18th FAI World Microlight Championships got off to a flying start after a big bang from a military canon opened the event, being held at Deenethorpe Airfield in Great Britain from 27 July to 3 August 2024.

The event test pilots skills in Navigation, Precision and Economy tasks across the classes of Weightshift and 3axis Microlights, and Gyrocopters:

  • Classic classes - RAL 1 T (Movable Aerodynamic Control / Landplane / Flown solo)
  • Classic classes - RWL 1 T (Weight-shift Control / Landplane / Flown solo)
  • Classic classes - RWL 2 T (Weight-shift Control / Landplane / Flown with two persons)
  • Classic classes - RAL 2 T (Movable Aerodynamic Control / Landplane / Flown with two persons)
  • Autogyro - RGL 2 T (Autogyro / Landplane / Flown with two persons)

A total of 87 pilots and co-pilots are representing 12 nations at the former military airfield, with the hosts are delighted to welcome a team who travelled all the way from India to take part. A local scoutsing ground created the nation signs.

On Saturday 27 the first Precision task took place in blue skies. Competition director Owain Johns and his team have put together interesting tasks which will ensure the crews get to experience England's countryside.
